September 27 & 28, 2011

Tuesday - grapefruit for breakfast, left over soup for lunch, and a home made chicken quesadilla for dinner. Not the most exciting day, but still really good. Loving the soup. It's also nice not stuffing my face, have been a bit preoccupied so food hasn't really been the priority.

Today, the same things as yesterday but for dinner I had a pita. I forgot to defrost something. Oh and I also ate a strawberry fruit strip thing that Ingrid gave me. It was sweet, but it was good.

Sorry, really boring two days. Tomorrow I will kick it up a notch!

Oh by the way, it seems the ostrich fillet has overtaken the lamb shank pie! Still loads of time to vote people, so make sure you do! Thanks for those who already have (if you want to vote again, try using a different browser, hahaha) xxx

September 26, 2011

Back on the grapefruit this morning, which was really nice for a change, even though its my ol' trusty.

I worked from home today, Lee is back on nights and our sleeping wasn't great last night. I couldn't wake him up to drive me to work, that would just be cruel, and it was stormy so riding my bike seemed out of the question. Was quite a productive day really, although by 10am my hankering for a coffee grew so big that I had to put the coffee machine on, risking waking up Lee with the delicious aroma of roasted hazelnuts. Mmmmm. He didn't get up until lunch time, so that was nice, perfect timing for a walk together.

Lunch was left over pulled pork in a wrap, with some avocado, tomato & lettuce. Yum yum. I am amazed how the pork turned out. Honestly. That recipe is definitely a keeper, and I imagine its a lot healthier than having pulled pork out. Not sure why, but that's how I am justifying it right now :)

I had a few bites of the left over veg & goats cheese pie from the other night, this was Lee's 'lunch', it looked & smelled so damned good. And it was. He was still hungry (probably because his wife kept taking bites of his lunch) so I decided on an early dinner for myself and made spicy sweet potato soup, a recipe from my Power Foods cookbook. All I can say is, bloody fantastic!

I love this recipe, its so easy, so tasty, and really filling. Never made it before but will definitely be making it again. Squeezed a wedge of lime over the top then chucked in with some spring onion, and voila.

Lee has now gone off to work for the evening, leaving me here all by myself. *queue violins*.

September 25, 2011

Had yogurt with granola for breakfast, I love this granola - vanilla almond. Mmmm. Only a bit of yogurt, no milk, trying to keep the dairy down but know I have to have some at some point... My bones are not getting any younger.

Lunch was another pita, considering our pita fail on Friday we both felt like one. And they were HUGE, and ridiculously awesome. And cheap, we used a coupon :P

I decided to bite the bullet and try making pulled pork for dinner. Variation of several recipes I have been looking at, and used pork loin instead of pork shoulder or something fattier. I was told it was dead easy, and... honestly it really was! Slow cooked it in the oven in my cast iron dutch oven with beer, apple juice, worcs, onion, garlic & spices for about two hours on a med-low temp:

Shredded (pulled) the pork it with a fork:

Then smothered it in smoky BBQ sauce. Far out, it was good! There is seriously loads of it, so I made porkadillas for dinner.  Sans cheese but still ridiculously good.

Lee is going to take some in to work for dinner tomorrow night, he is on night shift this week, probably eat it in a fresh crusty bread roll. Mmmm. I will probably have it for lunch in a wrap tomorrow, not sure yet, will worry about that at 6am.
I am looking forward to the weekend already, hanging for Lee's bday dinner, taking him out for steak with the McGregors. Fitting way to turn 30, don't you think? Meat and cocktails! Hopefully the week leading up will be an interesting food week, we will see....

September 24, 2011

Had some strawberries with almonds for breakfast. Skipped spin, I think we both just needed a sleep in.

It was a beautiful day so we wanted to go out for lunch, and ended up on the patio of our trusty ol' favourite, Ethels. We both tried something different on the menu this time, I got a blackened chicken wrap with caesar salad. It was actually a lot heavier than I thought so didn't finish it, but still pretty good. There was a roasted garlic mayo in this bad boy that totally made my day.

We kicked off our afternoon/evening with a couple of margaritas! Nice.

We snacked on a peanut muesli bar later, and I made a pumpkin, tomato, prosciutto and goats cheese pie for dinner:

It was actually really good, I fudged the recipe up a bit because we didn't have the ingredients we thought we did, and after a couple of margaritas, didn't really care! But it came out awesome, and was dead easy, so definitely going to play more with this.

Looks like the lamb shank pie is in the lead, please make sure if you read this you also vote, same place as always, top right :) Ciao for now....

September 23, 2011

Morning started with berries and yogurt with some almonds.

By the time lunch came around I was starving. To be honest, I was craving lunch from 10am. The plan was for Lee to come meet me and we go grab some pitas. Lee did come to meet me, but the traffic was woeful and there weren't any car spots at the shops. Frustrated, we head to the mall and then to a different pita joint, only to find the same thing - traffic, and no parks. Half an hour later we found a different pita place, and a car park, and went in. I had a grilled chicken pita, same as what I would normally get from the Pita Factory. It cost the same, was half the size, and to be honest, it was pretty average. Never again, Pita Pit! But we were both so hungry I guess it didn't matter.

In the afternoon, I snacked on a Daisy Cake - pumpkin cupcakes with I am sure something illegal in the icing so I didn't ask too many questions:

I love it when Daisy bakes! I did the whole 'I will just nibble at it over time...' thing. I had poke and lick at the icing. Then again. And when I looked back down a couple of seconds later I had crumbs all down my front and an empty sticky cupcake wrapper. Seriously good stuff, Daisy. You should totally turn this professional.

Dinner was a little late, I met with one of the volunteers from the FoodBank for a coffee and to talk through recipes and our mojo for this project, which was awesome as I have been feeling a bit stuck. Turns out I wasn't alone. Well, over one cup of maple cream black coffee I soon found out we have more in common than just food, which has also turned into a dinner invitation and some handy local knowledge on breweries and meateries! And we got our mojo back for the project, so it should be a good meeting next week.
Back to dinner, we had goats cheese, sundried tomatoes and pine nut stuffed chicken breasts wrapped in proscuitto, roasted asparagus and a salad. And it was awesome. Although I stuffed mine down in about five minutes because I was working from home on company integration into the system, which thankfully only took about an hour and went relatively smoothly.

I would love to say it ended there... but it didn't. It ended one block of dark Lindt mint chocolate later.

September 21 & 22, 2011

Right, now I have finally realised something. This was meant to be a blog about everything I ate for a whole year. It still is. However, I found in the process that I had a passion for writing a blog, and wanted to keep things going, flowing and interesting. But I also found out what writers block is. This is definitely something I didn't expect, I mean, how hard can it be writing what you eat for a whole year? The answer is not very hard, but really freakin' hard at the same time. Being so open and honest about it? Well that's one thing, but trying to be creative, fun, interesting and engaging? That's a whole other ball game.

I feel like I have been in a lull lately. A food lull, and a writing lull. They 'could' be directly related to each other, and to everything else going on, I guess laziness plays a part too. So I am going to try to pick up my game and make this back to what I wanted it to be, rather than a 'I just have to do it cos I said I would'.  So here we go.

September 21, 2011

You will never guess what. I had berries, yogurt and nuts for breakfast, with a drizzle of honey. SHOCK HORROR!

Lunch was something special, more chicken and avocado with sundried tomato on ryvitas. Yep, two ryvitas. I may get bored of typing it, and I may get bored of looking at it, but damn, I don't think I will ever get sick of leftovers on ryvitas.

For dinner I finally got around to making the beef filos, with a salad. So good, although this time Lee had a slight... I don't know if you can call it a disappointment... he loves my filos, but this time he was loving them a little less. It's because I put broccoli in them. Which is strange, he loves broccoli. But I think it ruined it a bit for him. Oh well Lee, suck it up, you have it for lunch tomorrow, and for dinner tomorrow night!

September 22, 2011

Spin class first thing, then to work for... yep, yogurt and berries. And, as usual, delicious.

I was locked in a room with my team and IT today, working on a company integration into the HR system. Funnily enough, it was a really interesting day, although long and with a cracker headache. Lunch was provided, so after a couple of hours of discussion in the morning and while Lee ate beef & broccoli leftovers,  we went with a Thai/Vietnamese place. I was tossing up between a goat yellow curry, a chicken laksa, or a Vietnamese salad. I went with the Vietnamese salad, last time I had that it was AWESOME. Vermicelli noodles, chicken, veggies, spices. Yum. When I got it though, it was an iceburg lettuce salad with chicken and carrot. Uh... what?! Still, it was pretty good but I had the major food disappointment going on.  I did have a Thai spring roll though, which are always good. And I can't forget the four chocolate chip cookies I ate in there, made by my boss. I love that she loves food. So much in fact that she apologises for making 'kit cookies', instead of 'from scratch cookies'. Shut up Janine, your cooking rocks! I love working with people who love food. Not just food, but good food, wholesome food.

Moving on, dinner was much of the same thing as last night (and lunch for Lee), here's a visual:

And, it was more than satisfying. That's it for today, so until next time, happy eatings xx

PS Please vote on my next cooking challenge! The challenges really help me with my blog mojo :)

September 20, 2011

Ended up having left over roast for dinner last night, in sandwiches. Yum.

Early morning start, spin class (flying solo this time, Lee is on shift), then to work where I had breakfast. Berries, greek yogurt and nuts with a drizzle of honey. Again. And it was delicious. I need to get back on to the grapefruit though I think.

Lunch was a bit random, it was the 'Pot Luck' lunch where everyone brings a dish. Well, meant to be everyone but not everyone did. The theme was cultural, I made the muhammara dip again, a few people commented on it, but not sure how well it went down overall. Loads left, I guess that's a sign eh? Never mind. So all up I ate two meatballs (Dutch, apparently) which were good, a load of greek salad (I think the highlight for me), some dip with pitas, some chicken salad, a spoon of shepherds pie and a spoon of butter chicken curry & rice. I then ate half a butter tart which was store purchased and a bit average, and a few rugelach pastries, which were awesome. I was stuffed though. There were a few things on the table I didn't try, but I definitely ate enough.

Dinner was... well... random also. I forgot to to defrost the mince for dinner. I had a fairly shitty long day, as did Lee, so we went to the pub instead, Mr Mastercard really is copping a beating. I had a Canadian club sandwich on rye, which is basically chicken, back bacon, lettuce, tomato and maple mayo. I have to say it was pretty tasty. I also had a bite of Lee's Reuben, which on the menu it said 'corned beef' which turned me off, I am a pastrami or smoked meat kinda gal. But they made it with smoked meat, so I had to have a bite, and it was awesome, even if they did forget to put the sauerkraut in there.

And that was the day. I still seem to be harbouring some kind of funk feeling. I hope to snap out of it soon and get back on the healthy food wagon. So easy to feel lazy and not care when you are in a funk, eh. Well, at least I am hitting the gym every day.... I guess.

peace out xx

September 19, 2011

After the last few days of my sisters and mums birthdays, I remember that being away from home always makes me crave cake at this time of year. I remember eating cake every day for what felt like a week! Today, I really wanted cake. But I didn't have any.

Breakfast was some blackberries and strawberries with greek yogurt and almonds after the gym. Went for a run this morning at the gym, nearly died. Gotta get better at that.

This is what I had for lunch - chicken and avocado with sun dried tomatoes, on ryvitas. And I gotta say, it was really good! Though I could have kept eating it, not sure it was enough...

Dinner is left over roast, with potatoes and the onion we didn't eat last night. I am going to smother horseradish all over mine! Lee is back on shift, he wont finish until 7pm so I am waiting here at work getting some things done for the FoodBank and maybe even some study. Maybe. We will see.

September 17 & 18, 2011

Another double whammy. Sorry, my funk spilled on to the weekend, and my blogging motivation was non existent.

Saturday morning I had watermelon, and went straight to spin class at 8am. Tried to work of some of that pizza from the night before. Its funny, Lee and I both realised how much less we ate compared to say, a year ago. Still, probably shouldn't have and regretting it now, but it was mighty fine pizza. So good in fact, that the guilt was overtaken by my funk and my stomach and I snacked on a bit more of it before lunch! Whoops.

Lunch was out and about, I had a chicken quesadilla from our favourite pub. And it was good.

Dinner was chicken caesar salads, sans egg as we ran out of egg, and sans prosciutto for the same reason. It was still pretty good though, I loaded it up with pickled peppers. Tasty little treats they are.
We then devoured an entire block of Lindt dark mint chocolate. Shame on us.

Sunday morning I had the rest of the watermelon for breakfast. No gym today. My funk well and truly set in, so I thought retail therapy might help. One pair of shoes later, I was feeling a bit better.

We did some grocery shopping, and well, while we were out and I was on a shoe high, we went for a drink at our other favourite pub, and stayed for a porkadilla. Man, those things are bloody awesome. I am going to try to replicate them... somehow.... Anyone got a recipe for smoked hickory bbq sauce?

For dinner I cooked a beef roast with potatoes, asparagus & mushrooms. I will add a picture later... maybe. It was pretty good, but the meat a little tougher than I would have liked. Still pink in the middle so no biggie.

And that was the weekend.

September 16, 2011

Went to bed ridiculously early last night, so naturally I woke up at 4am. With a cracker of a headache. Breakfast was watermelon. Nice way to start the day actually, and good to have something different. But was starving by the time lunch came around. Starving and exhausted.

I organised for a few of us at work to go out for sushi, we went to Sakura Island which my boss recommended. And oh wow it was good, but seriously a whole lotta food. I ordered the tempura & maki, and it came out like this:

It was delicious. I wasn't expecting this much food. I did my darndest to get through it though, and ate just about everything. The sushi rolls were prawn & crab, the tempura was broccoli, squash (we think) and sweet potato. There was some cold noodle thing which was really good, and a salad. It was really good value, all that for $13 (+ tax). Oh and it came with a bowl of miso. I heart miso!

I was in a bit of a funk yesterday, it has been a tough week and I have been exhausted and going to bed early, only to wake up at stupid o'clock. I wasn't the best company at lunch either, I was hoping the food would cheer me up but I was so stuffed, I added 'uncomfortable' to my list. Lee and I went for a beer after work (my boss is awesome, she let us off early). I had two pints and crashed, I just wanted to be tucked up in bed.

So for dinner, well, I would love to say 'the shame the shame' but it was a really awesome pizza from our local. I know, I shouldn't have, especially after the week of not the healthiest eating, but I dunno. Sometimes when you are in a funk, there are more important things to worry about than feeling guilty about food.
Plus, when we get pizza from this place, the crazy Chinese guys that run it always say 'Mr Lee, Mr Lee!' and talk Chinglish to him, and call him 'boss'. Its too funny!

As you can see, I have given my blog a 'fall' look, just to get us in to the season. Will hopefully be cooking up some kicker recipes soon too, have been on the boring front a bit lately. Which reminds me, please vote for my meaty challenge! On the top right. xxx

September 15, 2011

Well we didn't end up having rissoles, the mince wasn't defrosted. We did have coupons for Harvey's though, so we had chicken burgers which were awesome, but a little on the guilty side...

For breakfast I had yogurt and granola from Starbucks. Again, nothing in the house, and it was pay day after all.
I also picked up lunch there, because I figured it would be cheaper and healthier than eating from the work truck cafe, that food is a bit rank and so expensive. This is what I had, and it was gooood:

For dinner, we had those rissoles finally, Lee really does make good rissoles.
We had these in a bun with avocado, lettuce, tomato and jalapeño harvati. And that was it for the day.

September 14, 2011

Breakfast was two ryvitas with natural peanut butter. You can tell I forgot to buy fruit from the supermarket eh?

Lunch was avocado mixed with some goats cheese, tomatos, served on ryvitas with ham on top. Look familiar? That's because the majority of my lunches look like this!

Dinner is rissoles and salad. So I am tipping lunch tomorrow is rissoles and salad. I will confirm later on, I am currently still at work.

In other food related topics, I have asked another volunteer at the FoodBank if she would like to catch up before the next meeting to go over some recipes, so we are meeting next Tuesday which will be good. There have been a few challenges with the recipe book, I think as a group we started to overshoot our goal, and started to get really complicated, which it shouldn't be. Considering our demographic is low to no income earners, and those relying on the FoodBank to eat, I think we started to get caught up. It is harder than you think to come up with recipes for meals to feed everyone from children to whole families, to single adults, to the elderly. For those who have no cooking equipment or tools, people who may not speak English, people who may have never cooked a day in their lives, people with no energy as they have money to eat. Trying to make the healthiest recipes possible including food that will last the longest, with limited food and tools required, its quite a mission. I am still focused though and hope to be back on track with the group soon. Seriously, if you have cheap recipe ideas, send them my way. People keep suggesting cheese on toast, but considering a loaf of bread here is about $2, and a block of cheese is around the $8, this isn't really suitable.

In other food news, the HR team at work are having a 'pot luck' lunch, and the theme is 'cultural'. Now I am completely stuffed for ideas as to what to bring in that's cultural. I wish I had a raclette set, but having said that, its a pricey show to put on for 30+ people. I am pretty sure curry is going to be a big theme, and not sure reheated Aussie burgers would do the trick. What do you think? Any suggestions?!

September 12 &13, 2011

Have to play a bit of catch up, this week so far has been a little insane.

Monday morning I had half a nectarine for breakfast. I will admit it was rather boring.

Lunch was funnily enough pretty good. Left over chicken rissole on two rivitas with avocado and tomato. I swear I took a picture but I cant find it anywhere. Never mind, just imagine the other ryvita lunches I have eaten.
In the afternoon I had another nectarine, and it was average so I ended up binning it.

We went to spin after work and it left me feeling rancid for some reason. Tired, and to be honest rather ill. I was uninspired by cooking and was left lumping on the couch feeling sorry for myself. Lee went and picked us up some grilled chicken pitas (we had a coupon, haha) and that was perfect. Made me perk up a bit but was still feeling pretty rank. Never mind.

Woke up ridiculously early on Tuesday to go to spin (again) and this class was much better and I walked out of the gym feeling like a million bucks. I had a peanut butter ryvita before the gym and afterwards I had a smoothie. Unfortunately due to my lack of cooking, there were no leftovers for lunch, so instead I had mall sushi again, no photo this time but it looked exactly the same as last time.

Oh and I cant forget my bosses blue plum cake! Was absolutely delicious, the smell of them alone next to my desk was intoxicating. I absolutely love cinnamon. I had two bits, whoops.

Lee and I went for a knock off (don't even say it), and they told us that wings were half price. Well. Mr Mastercard liked that, so we had wings. And thats it.

So a pretty average two days of eating I must say, other than that fantastic plum cake. We have more groceries now and I will definitely cook tonight. I guess its just one of those things eh?

September 11, 2011

Breakfast was half a muesli bar. Whoops. Lunch was a peameal bacon & avocado sandwich. Double oops.
And the biggest whoops of all? Pizza for dinner. At least it was a home made pizza:

We had a whole bunch of leftovers and didn't do any grocery shopping for vegetables so this was it. Ham, left over mozzarella, some goats cheese, tomatoes and basil, with a bucketload of chilli. The dough worked much better than before, I edited the recipe just a smidge. Not sure what I have to do to get it crispy but for now this works. Thin, firm, and not too dense. Mmmm.

September 10, 2009

Breakfast was strawberries, half a nectarine and some almonds and a drizzle of honey (to give me a sugar boost to get me to early morning spin!).

After spin I had my hair cut and coloured, feeling like a new woman we went out for lunch to our favourite pub. I had a chicken quesadilla, I was expecting something a little lighter than this, but it was still pretty good:

Lee had a fantastic hamburger that looked f#@%ing amazing, and I had food envy 2000. He substituted his fries for sweet potato fries, and check this out!

So ridiculous I had to include it here! Look at that chip! Its HOOOOOOOOOOGE! I can see the Mega Duck going to town on that bad boy.

We snacked on some corn chips and salsa in the evening, and had a late dinner of chicken burgers. Lucky Lee, two burgers in one day. These were on the much healthier side though, and sans fromage.

Still, great hambugers, my husband is officially the rissole expert in this house.

We still have a freezer full of meat for the week, I will try to be as creative as possible with it, but might be another dull week on the ol' blog. Looking at some recipes to jazz things up a little bit, really looking forward to making soups etc. Probably not in The President, we all remember the borscht disaster of April 2011.

As I go on about recipes and what not, please please please vote for my next cooking challenge, it would mean a whole lot to me. If you cant for any reason vote, leave a comment and I will vote for you! Thanks yall xxx

September 9, 2011

Breakfast was this:

Nectarine, strawberries, yogurt and some almonds, with a drizzle of honey. And it was goooood.

Lunch was left over pork on ryvitas with avocado. Looks the same as every other time I eat ryvitas for lunch so I didn't bother taking a pic. Sounds bland, but it actually was really good and really filling.

Dinner was... well dinner was cheeky. Very very cheeky. Sober September has turned into Mostly Sober September. We went to Ethel's and had a pint, and I ended up ordering some pulled pork nachos:

I know I know, dirty right? But, I have to say, I don't regret it at all! THEY WERE AWESOME! A porky kind of day all round eh? See what I did there? .....

September 8, 2011

Breakfast was the same as every other breakfast recently - berries & greek yogurt.

Lunch was so good, left over asparagus wrapped in proscuitto with some tomatoes, avocado and goats cheese:

Then snacked on some more fruit in the afternoon:

Dinner was pork loin (sage & maple, mmmm) and some broccoli slaw. You cant argue with that people!  I was really hungry so I ate mine in a sandwich with some cheese. Oh my god it was awesome. Sometimes you just need a sandwich for dinner, you know? No? Well, it was good anyway :)

September 7, 2011

Breakfast was yogurt and berries, but with a sprinkle of granola to give it some crunch.

Lunch was avocado and ham on ryvitas, it looked like this, and was quite tasty but not really enough food.

I ate half a nectarine after, which was good for about 30 minutes, but there is something about eating fruit when you are hungry. Its ok for half an hour or so, but after that it feels like its burning a hole in your stomach, or your stomach starts to eat itself!

Naturally I was starving after work, so I was pretty pleased to cook this up for us:

I would normally do the mushrooms in booze, but as we are lacking in that department at the moment, I did them in garlic, butter, thyme, a bit of beef stock that was left over, and seasoned the crap out of it. Bloody delicious. Not bad for a Wednesday night eh? Steak, prosciutto wrapped roasted asparagus and garlic mushies. Mmmmm.

September 6, 2011

Interesting food day yesterday. Kind of. Breakfast was fruit and yogurt, again.

Lunch was vege sushi from the mall. Mall sushi is never really exceptional but it was still pretty yummy.
I totally demolished it, I forgot to take a pic until the last minute:

We did a massive grocery shop after work, and were stoked with the bargains we got. Seriously, 4 chicken breasts, 2 massive fillet steaks, two chipotle pork loins and a massive maple & sage pork loin and some chicken mince for $35. Chuffed! So the freezer is stocked, and we had a lovely dinner of roasted chicken breast with herbs, some asparagus and salad. YUM.

I am not going to lie to you, we also tucked in to some cookie dough ice cream after dinner. And it was good.

Next stop - steak central *drool*...

PS - speaking of meat - please vote on my next cooking challenge! Same place, top right.

September 4 & 5 - the rest of the weekend

So lets see, another double update as it was a busy-ish weekend.

I stupidly skipped breakfast on Sunday, I wasn't hungry and got busy by the time I realised I was, so when Lee came to get me after 2pm I was a bit on the grumpy side! We had lunch out, went to the Moose. I had a cajun chicken salad, and it was pretty average.

We head to the McGregor's parents place as they were away and we decided to camp out there and have a bonfire. Snacked on some olives, celery and I even ate a carrot, with some dip.
Dinner was on-the-bone chicken on the bbq, some sensational corn on the cob, a tomato & basil salad and some broccoli slaw. Delicious.

Once the bonfire got going, we toasted marshmallows & hotdogs. I love a good bonfire. And we had an amazing sleep in our tent, even in the rain.

Breakfast on Monday morning was dirty dirty dirty, a sausage and egg mcmuffin from Maccas.  I also ate a dirty dirty hash brown. It hit my stomach like lead. What's got into me?

For lunch which was also a bit late, we had another pita as its a bank holiday, there was no food in the fridge (we were totally unprepared) and supermarkets were closed. Still, the pita was pretty good, but not as good as last time. Overdose maybe?

Didn't really have dinner, I ate some baked beans around 8:30pm, then it was an early night for us. So not entirely sure what to make of the whole weekend, here's to a healthier week. Time to get to the gym and eat some salads!

xx

September 3, 2011

Early wake up today, had yogurt with strawberries and blackberries for breakfast, and threw on some granola just for the crunch. So good.

Lunch was a bit late, around 3pm, but it was really good - Lee did some overtime and bought back some pitas. Man, they are so tasty. Just for shits and giggles I did a comparison against dirty Subway, it has 1/4 of the fat with tzatziki and a higher nutrition value. Still, shouldn't get too hooked on these either, we do eat them... a lot.

Dinner was two left over tacos at 8pm. After the hefty late lunch we only really needed a snack. Oh, that and some Haagen Dazs ice cream which is on sale at the moment. Its so bloody hot that we were hanging for this all day. I have to say, the chocolate peanut butter is mind boggling awesome. The best bit is we didn't go to town on it, only eating a small amount. I am definitely finding it harder to eat healthier when not drinking, which is strange really. Same calorie intake just different crap! Still, its delicious, hahaha.

As you may have noticed, I have a new poll up for my next cooking challenge. Something meaty is the theme, and I have gone with four things I would love to cook that I have never cooked before. Should be fun, as it is also going to be my birthday dinner, which is a few days later! Anyone want to join us?

September 2, 2011

We did indeed have tacos on Thursday night, and they were goooood.

Friday breakfast was berries with yogurt, again. So good.

Lunch was naughty, but so very good. We went to Harvey's (again) and it was awesome. The shocking thing about this meal (chicken burger, condiments, chips, drink) is that it has less fat & less calories that a flatbread Subway with salami. No mayo, no cheese. Can you believe it?! I can't eat the normal subway bread, it hurts my stomach, so I go for the flatbread. I just found out, the flatbread has 10g of fat in it alone. I was shocked. Shocked and appalled! Especially considering it was a pretty shitty lunch.Never again Subway, you hear me?!
This Harvey's meal though? Awesome lunch.

I know I know, its not a ticket or a license to eat this all the time, but it was Friday, it was hot, and it was easy. Will have to tone this habit down though, I can see a pattern. How North American does the pic look though?!

I was so stuffed when I got back to work my mojo was really low. Finished work early and head straight to the gym for some solo spinning, as there were no classes on. It was nice to have the room to myself though, and I have to say my music is much better than our current spin instructors music. Same stuff every week, c'mon Paul, shake it up a bit mate!

Dinner was really tasty. Home made pizza, again, as I had all the leftovers in the fridge. The dough is not pleasing me though, I tried the same recipe as last time with white bread and I am still not happy with it. I want something lighter and crispier. There is a recipe in John Torode's 'Beef' cookbook, might have a crack at that next time, though that might not be for a while too, pizza overload maybe?!

This had mozzarella, goats brie, vine tomatoes, prosciutto, basil and chilli. And it was scrummy, we were nothing short of satisfied when we demolished this bad boy.

Here's to a healthier weekend eh?!

September 1, 2011

Ah, new month. Four months to go for this blog and I will have achieved my challenge.

Breakfast was a peanut butter ryvita before heading off to spin, then the usual greek yogurt, berries and nuts afterwards when at work.

My team went out for lunch today, I had a jerk chicken wrap with yam frites. Oh dear. I did a pretty good job of getting through the chips, whoops. I am such a sucker.

When we got back to work, I also had another mini ice cream, and then fell on a double piece of dark chocolate. Note to self - need to be mindful that while in Sober September, I cant just replace those calories with other calories!

Dinner tonight is more mince beef, this time we are going for tacos. I love tacos. I love Mexican food. I also love it with a beer, but not for another four weeks. *sigh* I am sure they will still be good though....

Breakfast was berries, greek yogurt and nuts with a drizzle of honey. I will need to get back on the grapefruit bandwagon soon I think, but loving this combo.

Lunch was left over rissole on salad, and it was awesome. Just as awesome cold, that's when you know you have a winner!

My husbandman makes ace hamburgers, that's for sure.
They had mini ice creams at work today. Normally I say 'no thank you' and mope for a while. Today, I thought 'SOD IT' and had one. It lasted about two seconds, and was soooo good. No après dairy effects either. Joyness all round.

Dinner was really good too, although no pics. It was the usual roasted pork fillet with some salad. Pork is dirt cheap at the moment, $6 for two huge fillets, so loving that. Mince beef (or ground beef, whatever you want to call it) was also on the cheap, about $7 for 2kg. So watch this space, more mince meat food to come, ha ha!

Got snacky later on though, so I had some cereal with some yogurt and honey. It wasn't exactly ice cream but it was goood.

Early start, a peanut butter ryvita for breakfast and then straight to spin class at the gym.
Post spin greek yogurt with nuts and berries when at work, lovely.

Lunch was much better than yesterdays, Japanese noodle soup from the food court at the mall. Mmmmm.

Dinner was awesome, a good way to finish the day. Lee made hamburgers (made with beef, mushroom & zucchini), with some avocado, lettuce and bacon jam. Bliss! Bread overload perhaps but it was damn good. Love a day of food success!
